Developing Applications with Zend Studio Using Zend Server on AWS

Zend Studio's integration with Zend Server also allows you to seamlessly develop your application on the cloud. This tutorial will demonstrate how easy it is to deploy from Zend Studio to Zend Server on the cloud, and debug from Zend Server's innovative new technology - Z-Ray.

In this tutorial you will learn to:

  • Define an AWS Zend Server in Zend Studio
  • Create a new Zend Framework project
  • Deploy new project to Zend Server on AWS
  • Open an SSH Tunnel
  • Open a debugging session in Zend -Studio from Z-Ray

Prerequisites

 

ClosedStep 1: Adding the Zend Server AMI to Zend Studio

The first step in this tutorial is to add your Zend Server Developer Edition AMI to Zend Studio.

 

 

Instructions on how to complete a procedure

To add your Zend Server AMI:

  1. From the Menu bar,  select Window | Show View | PHP Servers to add the PHP Servers view to your perspective.

  1. In the PHP Servers view, click on the Add icon .
    The PHP Server Creation dialog is displayed.

  1. Select Remote Zend Server, and click Next.
    The Zend Server details dialog is displayed.

  1. Enter the following information:

    • Name: Server name (e.g. AWS)

    • Base URL: the AWS Zend Server URL (e.g., http://54.166.230).
  1. Click Next.
    The Deployment dialog is displayed.

  1. Select the Enable Zend Deployment check-box, and click Detect Key Details.
    The Zend Server Credentials dialog is displayed.
  1. Enter your Zend Server UI login credentials.
    The Zend Server Web API Key Name and Key Hash fields are filled.
  1. Click Next.
    The Automatic Upload dialog is displayed.

  1. Click Next.
    The Configure SSH Tunneling dialog is displayed.

  1. Select the Enable SSH Tunneling check-box.
  2. In the Username field , enter an SSH connection user name ('ubuntu' for the Zend Server 7.x Developer Edition on Ubuntu AMI).
  3. In the SSH Private Key field, click Browse to locate your SSH private key.

    Important!

    The key you select must be identical to the key you used when launching the Zend Server AMI.

  4. In the Port Forwarding section, click Add.
    The Create Port Forwarding dialog is displayed.

  1. Enter the following details:
    • Side - click the drop-down menu, and select Remote.
    • Local Address - 127.0.0.1.
    • Local Port - 10137.
    • Remote Address - leave empty.
    • Remote Port - 10137.

    You should see the following command below: 

    ssh -R 10137:127.0.0.1:10137

  2. Click Finish.

  3. Back in the Configure SSH Tunneling dialog, click Finish.
    Zend Studio validates the new remote Zend Server, and adds it to the PHP Servers view.
ClosedStep 2: Creating and Deploying a New Zend Framework 2 Project

We will now create a new Zend Framework 2 project, and deploy it on the AWS Zend Server.

 

 

Instructions on how to complete a procedure

To create and deploy a project:

  1. In the menu-bar, go to File | New | Local PHP Project.
    The New Local PHP Project wizard is displayed.

  1. Enter the following information:
    • Project Name - name your new project.
    • PHP Server - click the drop-down menu, and select your AWS server.
    • Content - select Zend Framework.
  2. Click Finish.
    The new project is created and displayed in the PHP Explorer.

  1. Drag the project from the PHP Explorer and drop it on the AWS server in the PHP Servers view.
    -OR-
    In the Testing area of the project's open 'deployment.xml' file, click Deploy Application.
    The Deploy PHP Application dialog is displayed.

  1. Click Finish.
    Zend Studio deploys the project to Zend Server on AWS.
ClosedStep 3: Opening an SSH Tunnel

Next, we are going to open an SSH tunnel from Zend Studio to the remote AWS Zend Server.

 

 

Instructions on how to complete a procedure

To open an SSH tunnel:

In the PHP Servers view, right click the AWS server, and select Open SSH Tunnel.

A success message is displayed in the bottom-right corner of the screen.
ClosedStep 4: Debugging in Zend Studio from Z-Ray

Our last step is to open a debugging session in Zend Studio directly from Z-Ray.

 

 

Instructions on how to complete a procedure

To open a debugging session from Z-Ray:

  1. Open the application in a browser.

  1. Z-Ray is displayed at the bottom of the page. On the right, click the Debug icon, and select Debug current page.
    A debugging session is opened in Zend Studio.

    Note:

    This may take a while due to communication and connectivity issues.
